175 Buena Vista
Of the properties on the hill in Stinson Beach, 175 Buena Vista (a double parcel) is one of the most private, quiet, and peaceful of them all. Situated midway up a broad ravine with a southern exposure, and protected from the northwesterly winds by a knoll studded with Monterey cypress, pines and bay, 175 Buena Vista is it’s own warm, hidden sanctuary.
A year-round, spring-fed creek borders the property, winding through native trees, vines and creepers into a lush bed of nasturtiums, watercress and Chilean gunnera before it tumbles over rock cascades on its journey to the sea. In the fall, Monarch butterflies flock to the sanctuary on the knoll to the west, which is also home to Cooper’s hawks, great horned owls, red foxes, blue herons, and countless songbirds. In the summer, you can watch the humpback whales spout and breach while freighters and cruise ships slowly traverse the horizon. At night, under a diamond-studded sky, the hoots of the owls, the gurgling of the creek and the steady, distant thrum of the waves lull you into dreamland.
It is truly a nature lover’s paradise, just a 10-minute walk to the dog-friendly beach below, and a 10-minute walk to the Willow Camp trail, which connects to miles of hiking trails in Mt. Tam State Park and the GGNRA. Hikers can walk out their front door and hike on the Mountain all day long without ever having to get behind the wheel.
The home brings the natural beauty of your surroundings inside. Upstairs, there is a view of the ocean from the great room, the kitchen, the master bedroom and the upper deck, while, to the north, skylights and windows open to the slopes of Mt. Tam. Whitewashed vaulted ceilings with exposed beams and classic wainscoting create a wonderfully open, airy space. On cool mornings and evenings, the remote-controlled gas Malm fireplace heats the great room up in minutes with a warm glow.
The downstairs bedrooms are bright and cozy, each with their own bathroom, while the downstairs family/TV room opens onto the expansive lower deck and hot tub. There is an office/studio, wired for Ethernet, off the front deck, expansive storage closets along the driveway and additional storage under the house and in the laundry room. The driveway accommodates two to three cars, which is real bonus in the summertime when on-street parking can be scarce.
